Meet the Doctors

Rosalia Saavedra, O.D.

Dr. Saavedra

Dr. Saavedra received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry.  She received her Bachelor degree in Psycho-Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles.  Dr. Saavedra completed her externships at Seymore Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina and Clinica de La Raza in Oakland, California.  She is certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease and glaucoma as well as co-management of cataract and refractive surgery. 

Dr. Saavedra is an active member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association and the Alameda-Contra Costa County Optometric Society.  Dr. Saavedra has been practicing in the Bay Area for over fifteen years and is fluent in Spanish.  Dr. Saavedra enjoys spending time with her husband, Tony Gomes, and her two sons, Mitchell and Benjamin.

Yukako Akera, O.D.

Dr. Akera

Dr. Akera received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Genetics also from the University of California, Berkeley.  She has been to Guatemala as part of a medical team, assisting in cataract and other eye surgeries, as well as treating patients in need of eye care.  She is certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease and glaucoma as well as co-management of cataract and refractive surgery.  Dr. Akera is an active member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association and the Alameda-Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society, where she has served as President and Treasurer.  She participates locally in vision screenings and health fairs, sponsored through the Alameda-Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society.  Dr. Akera has been practicing in San Leandro since 1991 and is fluent in Japanese.  Outside of the office, Dr. Akera enjoys spending time with her two daughters, Elle and Kira, and can often be found hiking on various trails with her two dogs.

Anna Wu, O.D.

Dr. Wu

Dr. Anna Wu is an Oakland native and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry. She completed her clinical rotations at the Marin Community Clinic in Novato and the Veterans Affairs Hospitals of Miami and Honolulu. She enjoys volunteering internationally and has been to Jamaica and Nicaragua to provide eye care to those in need.

Dr. Wu is an active member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, and Alameda-Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society. She is fluent in Cantonese (Toisan) and enjoys yoga, camping, and road trips.

Marcela Frias - Optician

Marcela is American Board of Opticianry(ABO) certified.  Her expertise in the opticianry world is unsurpassed.  She has been working as an optician for over 20 years.  Marcela is always learning the latest news in lens technology and is at the forefront of fashion trends for frames.  Marcela prides herself on helping patients find the perfect frame for their personality and lifestyle as well as the best lens for optimum vision.  Patient and customer satisfaction are her ultimate goal.  Marcela enjoys spending time with her children, Mateo, Josiah and Jocelyn.

Juana Ramirez - Optician

Juana has worked in the optical industry for over 10 years.  She is certified by the California Para-Optometric Association as an optometric assistant.  When you come in for your appointment, she will assist you in selecting the best lens and frame for your visual needs.  She is very knowledgeable in the numerous types of lenses available and can help select the best one for your work, home, and recreational needs.  She will assist you in selecting the frame shape and color that best suits your face and style.  Juana is a local San Leandro resident and is fluent in Spanish.
